FF.net Purge Update

Just a few quick words.

I’ve read that the purge is also including stories that have large blocks of text from other copyrighted works. Quotes are okay though. Info on that here.

Scrapbook (firefox add-on) can help you save comments and stories, and Flagfic can help you save stories easily. More on that here.

FF.net has posted this regarding ratings:

June 4th 2012 — Notices:

  • Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has not allowed Fiction MA rated content which can contain adult/explicit content on the site. FanFiction.Net only accepts content in the Fiction K through Fiction M range. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA and has not been allowed on the site since 2002.

They didn’t say anything on ratings for summaries or titles though, and still haven’t acknowledged the purge in their news bulletins. I think that only acknowledging it this way is worse than not acknowledging it at all. It’s dishonest.

I’m contemplating a move to LJ, and I’ve heard many writers are leaving for AO3 (Archive of Our Own). Thoughts?

For more info on the purge, see this post.

  1. oshizemi answered: Dreamwidth is a good site for fanfic AFIK, LJ isn’t very fanfic friendly (been there for 10+ years, they’ve had various purges of their own).
  2. samospeaks answered: They’ll regret it within a week, once they realize their site traffic has become practically non-existent. Authors are moving to new sites.

  4. tarisilmarwen answered: It is literally impossible for the staff of FFnet to completely enforce their no MA rule. I’m staying put.

  6. sashaeunice answered: I’m thinking of just using tumblr for posting fanfic because I hate livejournal.
  7. scramblingminds answered: I’m on all three sites. FF,net, AO3 and LJ. I don’t to leave FF but it’s like they are kicking me out.
